Jeff Allen, head Collin College women’s basketball coach

After a 7-1 start to the season as of Nov. 30, the Collin College women’s basketball team is ranked in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I top 25 for the first time in college history.

“This is by far the best team that the Collin College program has ever had,” said Lady Cougars coach Jeff Allen, whose squad is currently ranked No. 18. “We play hard and play an exciting style. Our team chemistry on the floor is the best I have had in nine years as coach.”

Contributing to the Lady Cougars’ chemistry is the solid play from Ashlee Ferguson, De’ Amber Brice, Traci Parks and Nina Fofang – each of whom are averaging double figures. Ferguson leads the way in scoring at 14.7 points per game, followed by Brice (12.0), Parks (11.3) and Fofang (10.6).

Aside from this quartet, Allen said his team’s biggest strengths are that he can play many players and his squad plays well as a team.

“The season is going well. We have 13 players who have not played together so we are coming together and learning how to play as a unit,” Allen said. “Our biggest keys for us are our depth and defense.”

Defensively, the Lady Cougars are holding their opponents to under 40 points per game while scoring around 75 points per outing.

“We play hard and play an exciting style,” Allen said, noting why Collin College faculty, staff and students should come watch the Lady Cougars in action. “I can honestly say we have a number of kids that contribute on a daily basis and it has truly been a team effort.”

Attendance to both the women and men’s basketball games, which are played in Cougar Hall at the Spring Creek Campus, are free for Collin College staff and students. To view schedules, visit .
