RESPIRATORY PROGRAM EARNS PRESTIGIOUS AWARD

For a second consecutive year, Collin College’s Respiratory Care Program received the Distinguished Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) Credentialing Success Award from the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC).

Araceli Solis, respiratory care program director, said receiving the award again reflects the combined hard work and dedication of Collin College students, faculty, instructors and community partners.

“Collin College is one of only 49 programs among the country’s 438 that’s achieved this prestigious distinction,” Solis said. “Our program consistently delivers a high-quality education, and our students are very successful in the community. We are committed to providing the community with respiratory care practitioners who are competent in their skills and passionate about the profession. This award reflects that.”

respPrograms selected for the CoARC award must have three or more years of outcome data, hold accreditation without a progress report, document RRT credentialing success of 90 percent or above and meet or exceed established CoARC thresholds for Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credentialing success, attrition and positive (job) placement.

“Earning this award twice in back-to-back years is a tremendous honor,” said Dr. Sherry Schumann, vice president and provost at the Central Park Campus. “It is directly attributable to the hard work, dedication and commitment to excellence by the faculty, staff, students and leadership of the Respiratory Therapy Program.”

Last year, Collin College respiratory students graduated with a 100 percent pass rate on the state licensure exam and a 94 percent employment rate.
